Timba gets its own space
Like many many others, timba groups seem to be discovering the joy of myspace. Or at least someone (possibly at Egrem or Unicornio?) has discovered that it's a good, free tool for band promotion. In some cases, they may have started a page there simply because of the amount of people impersonating them. Try and find Paulo's without my help; go on, I dare you. Oh all right, here is the real Paulo page (that's an image from it, right). There are at least five others under the name "Paulito FG" or "Paulo FG". Kevin mentioned Klimax's myspace page a few weeks ago at timba.com; but I recently discovered that along with Paulo, Manolito y su Trabuco have a page (with a bit of info about Amaray's solo album); as do Charanga Habanera and Los Van Van. They've all got the usual things on there - a bio of the band, songs from their albums, clips from their videos, and a big long list of largely idiotic comments and spam from fellow myspace users. A big relief is that they have links to their official web sites (if they have one). I hate myspace - the interface and the navigation sucks. It's a great concept - networking, video, music and blogging all in one place - I just wish that the guys who got around to doing it had actually implemented it in a way that didn't make me want to tear my hair out and throw my laptop in the bath. They make the guys who started blogger look like a savvy combination of Einstein, Marc Newson and Shigero Miyamoto.

I totally agree about myspace. Nice idea but you end up getting so many wierdos and exhibitionsist wrining comments that it grosses me out. The problme being that people who only know a little but are seriously interested my get totally the wrong impression due to bizarre commentators.

BTW Osvaldo cahcón has one too:

Thanks for the Osvaldo listing - I figured there'd be others. And you're right - there are better online venues for discovering timba - timba.com (did you notice on the Trabuco page it is listed as their web site?); Mucho Swing and Billy Bryans, just to name three.

I dind't check all of the myspace sites yet. I didn't know they listed Timba.com as their official site. I suppose it will do until someday when they have their own. PFG's official site has been down for some time so maybe the MySpace site(s) are all that are left.

I think you can appreciate myspace better if you are 14 - most of the "spaces" seem to have taken their design from the inside of my locker when I was in Jr. High School.
