Alexander y Manolito

Manolito y su Trabuco are showcasing a bunch of songs at their Havana gigs at the moment that will be on a forthcoming album. There are rumours that it will be live, but there are about a half dozen studio demos floating around and when I asked bass player Chino if they had recorded this one yet, he said, everything but the metales, which implies that it is very much a studio album. This one is a beauty - I don't know what it's called, but it was written by Alexander Abreu, and that's all I need to know. The catchy coros and lovely mambos are just icing on the cake. La Revé's Andy Fornet is on drums.

I had to watch it twice because I was laughing so hard from the guy taking the photo with him during the performance!

I like it! Alexander y Manolito is like Manolito meets Latin Jazz. Speaking of Alexander, any word on when the new HdP album will be released?

No news on that at all. Don't hold your breath. The two news songs (I have another video to upload) are sure to be on it and as far as I know, they haven't been recorded.

Bummed about that but I should have known after the first two singles were released and no one seemed to know the official title of the album.

There was so much buzz at first and then it quickly died down once they went on tour in Europe. Have they ever toured the states? Manolito or HdP?

Trabuco was there not long ago. Maybe last year. HdP - not yet.

Great tune--absolutely great! Can't wait for the recording. Mayami has such an over-the-top energy. Does he have a gay fan base in Havana? He definitely pulls off the song, but I can get distracted by his antics. (I guess they are no more strange than the sextures of most of the guys who sing in the front lines.) Keep trying to imagine him as Calzado's (definition of macho) nephew, though.

Fornet is a monster. He really drives this tune. Excellent. Thanks for recording and posting this!

Mayami is Calzado's nephew? You're not confusing him with Maza (who think was his stepson or something)? Doubt anyone in the timba groups has an overt gay following, if anything, I would say the boys in CH would corner that market. Also, honestly, Mayami is not looking so good these days. I don't know what has happened to him. Fornet does a great job when Riveron is out. Hope to get some news soon on how he's doing.

I heard about the Lázaro/Calzado connection from Michelle, and when El Trabuco was out here last spring, the mc mentioned it in his intro I believe. Don't know it for a fact, though. Nice that Riverón has such a competent sub!
